1) location and land area

Korea is located at the eastern end of the Asian continent and lies between China and Japan. The total land area is 220,000km. Similar to Italy, Korea is surrounded by water on three sides, to the east, west, and south. The distance from north to south is 1,000km and from east to west some 200-400km. The principal cities of Seoul and Busan are 350km apart. It takes 2 hours and 40minutes by KTX from Seoul to Busan. North korea`s land mass is 120,000km, which is larger than that of South Korea 100,000.
The area of South Korea is about the same as Cuba, Guatemala, Iceland, Hungary, Portugal, while the combined area of North and South Korea is similar to England, Ghana, and Romania. South Korea is the 109th largest country by land mass among 250 countries of the world, and that ranking would go up to the 85th if North and South Korea were combined. Compared to South Korea, the area of the United States is 98.5times larger, China 96.2, Brazil 85.3, France 5.5, Thailand 5.1, Spain 5.1, Japan 3.8, Germany 3.6. The farthest country from Korea is Argentina, which is located at the opposite side of the Earth.
