Taegeukgi and the National Anthem : Wishes for Independence

National Anthem : Until the East Sea is dried and Mt. Baekdusan is worn away,

God watch o`er(over) our land forever !
Live long Our Korea !
Rose of Sharon, thousand miles of our country filled with splendid rivers and mountains !
Guarded by her people, ever may Korea stand !
Taegeukgi : The white background symbolizes peace, and the Taegeuk figure composed of red and blue circles symbolizes the source of two principles in the universe. The overall Taegeuk figure indicates harmony between such dual cosmetic properties : the harmony of yin and yang. And the 'trigrams' which seem to be surrounding the Taegeuk figure symbolize "prosperity". This design was adopted from a trigram inside the " Book of Change ".
